The Unread Gmail Widget is literally that, it's a widget that displays the unread count of gmail messages.

The gmail 4.2 updates are new, so if you see any issues with Unread Gmail Widget and the 4.2 gmail app please email me at developer@waxsoft.co.uk to get it fixed!

Unlike other widgets this works with all versions of the GMail app to date, including the recent 2.3.5 update.

Read before you RETURN I returned this app because I couldn't get it to work but it turns out the issue wasn't the app, but was that I Google Play added a shortcut to the APP on my home screen instead of the widget. I returned the app in frustration but later learned, through another review, what the issue was. The instructions on this app aren't optimal but if you stick with it, you'll eventually get it. I purchased this primarily to enable links to both of my Gmail account Inboxes on my home screen and it does this perfectly. As a bonus, I get the unread count AND several icon choices. Nice app - I'm glad I gave it a second chance.

Good workaround. Good workaround. If you don't want to have separate IMAP polling then this is the best you're going to get. Given the limitations imposed by google, dev has done well to work around them. Dev extremely responsive when responding to queries.
