The Serval Mesh (v. 0.08) Разработано Serval Project |
Mobile communications are useful, but depend on infrastructure that can be damaged, overwhelmed, or even absent. So we assumed zero infrastructure, and came up with this; just the phones talking to each other, relaying calls, and resolving numbers for each other; a cellular commons using our unique Serval Mesh telephony software. We have developed mesh software that uniquely allows you to use your existing phone number.
So with using your existing number, and not requiring Internet Access, our software is making the best of what you have, whether in a disaster or emergency situation, or where poor economies or regional & location restrictions can mean zero infrastructure, we enable communication using just existing mobile phones. Our software is :
* Completely open and open-source; free for all
* Can be carried and activated in seconds by those who need it when it is needed
* Carrier independent
* Can be installed during an emergency from only one phone
* Distributed nature makes network resilient
Ideal for remote, rural & impoverished communities, and disaster/emergency situations, and the services that support them, our software is making the best of one of the most ubiquitous of devices - the mobile phone. Turn your phone into a true communications device - anytime, anywhere.

[2012-10-31] Leo Marcus: Obviously needs root as mentioned in description Works well on my phone. Hope to see more progress, perhaps an autorooter or a rootless exploit lol? Because it will suck if others don't have rooted devices. |
[2012-10-22] gro: Welcome to the future! Decentralized, democratic communications application. I look forward to it's widespread use, and seeing base stations with large antennas to help establish permanent MeshNet networks. |
[2012-09-24] Chozabu: Awesome Does what says on the tin and more. |
[2012-09-23] Falco: Great app! Let's all install it and stick it to the networks that keep overcharging us. |
[2012-09-13] Prosthetic: Very promicing I've got this working on my i5700 with cyanogenmod and on my stock U8110 and can make calls between the devices. Calls have more echo and lag than is ideal, but are comprehensible. I would love to see more users running this, in the developed world as well as in places with limited infrastructure or disaster areas. This type of totally decentralized technology has the potential to play an extremely significant part in our future. |
[2012-08-03] Michelle: GREAT IDEA Can't wait 2 c it help ppl :) Im wondering if the GPS can autotext location |
[2012-07-24] BiGAlex: Donate button required! This project is one of the most promising ones I've ever seen! :-P I can't wait to see the new version; I'd only like the gateway interface to be simpler (or more documented)... and then I'll be able to convert all of my friends to mesh networks! :-P |
[2012-07-02] Jeremy: Next update include a donate button Finally works on my Huawei X5 u8800. This app can transmit & receive up to 30 meters through a building |
[2012-06-27] cron: Doesn't work. Seemed to work on my droid4, but caused my device to reboot 2 hours later. Never did that before. Freezes at Trying to Control wifi on my droid2. Reboots my GFs Droid3 when the tethering notification comes on. Droid2 is on cm7 gingerbread 2.3. Droid4 is on motorola ICS 4.0.4 leak. Droid3 is on Steeldroid gingerbread 2.3 based. |
[2012-06-20] Nicolas: Not working on galaxy S3 (unrooted, ICS) Hi, the app installs, it seems to create a network (i've got the green sign on), but I never can see other batphones around (even though other people are running the app). And then, when I try to place a call the app never shows me the option to place a "mesh" call. |
[2012-06-14] Andre: Did everything as advertised... on the disclaimer! It ate my battery, the service could not be stopped, and wifi wouldn't work again until I uninstalled and rebooted. Couldn't test it, but look forward to try a newer version. SGS2 |
[2012-04-23] Guillaume: Very good idea! Works on Desire. |
[2012-04-22] Ken: Rooted vs. unrooted This app worked fine on my unrooted Sony Xperia S but was unable to pass root check when setting up on a rooted Samsung Galaxy Spica. Great idea. Keep up the good work. Data more than doubles app size. |
[2012-04-20] Turkish: Motorola defy 2.3 root Cannot create adhoc, say java exception. Otherwise great idea. I tried calling other phones, after a minute of dialing, gives me tone but no call arives on the other phone. |
[2012-03-23] cory: Adhoc fail Cannot gain adhoc control on the galaxy nexus. |
[2012-02-21] MadJo: Haven't been able to make a call with it But one thing I do notice, is that when I update other unrelated apps on my phone update, Serval requests root access, which worries me. Why are you snooping on my phone? |
[2012-02-19] besi: If it will work... Its ok. I hope we dont need this apps |
[2012-02-19] Warren: Best when underground works great on my nexus one, the trick is to choose the chipset as "generic" instead of "nexusone" |
[2012-02-18] Chris: working well it works good, it's a bit large (probably due to wifi chipset libraries), but no errors so far. |
[2012-02-18] Zaephor: Works great on everything So far seems everything is working great on all of my devices! |
[2012-02-18] Alexis: HTC HD2 with ICS Works perfectly on my HTC HD2 with cm9 ICS ROM. |
[2012-02-18] Derek: At first, all but bricked my phone Sorry, bro, but this app has all but bricked my stock Droid 4. When the app was trying to figure out how to drive the wifi, the phone rebooted and ever since, will crash almost all the programs on my phone, eventually crashing the OS and forcing the phone to reboot. After a hard reboot, it seemed to be working okay, but is still having issues. Forced to uninstall it =( Great idea, just needs wider platform support. |
[2012-02-15] Tim: Amazing Platform demo Works like a charm on my Samsung Galaxy ACE, a mid range, not too powerful phone. Very impressed! Can't wait to see what is done with it! |
[2012-02-03] PacoBell: Brilliant concept, just not ready yet. Needs to work on ICS. |
[2012-01-09] nou: Slight improvement It's getting past the start up page for me now which is better than the last version, it didn't do anything. But now it's causing my phone to restart randomly but invariably quickly when I run it. Samsung galaxy I9k 2.3 unrooted |
[2012-01-04] arikyeo: Used to work.... Used to work for CM7 but gives kernel panic on CM9. I think dev has to update to ics ready. |
[2011-12-31] Bitcloud: Awesome. Needs a 'switch off' and 'start automatically' options in the menu. I had to uninstall it to turn it off. (User error? Unsure.) |
[2011-12-08] Drew: William Droid X - liberty3, 0.6 website DL installs, 0.6 RC1 doesn't - Java error, unsupported chipset, can force it into client or AP mode with "guess" |
[2011-12-02] jay: No work on MOTO DEFY Doesn't give the "save" prompt when asked to enter phone# in the initial setup when you first open the app. No work on the motorola mb525 defy. |
[2011-11-29] Craig: Love the idea Couldn't get it to work on my galaxy s 2.2...shame coz the idea is perfect for our work. |
[2011-11-11] Michael: Awesome So far it doesn't work on red hill but I want to support this idea anyways. Keep up the good work. |
[2011-10-28] fratermus: rough, but working Obviously still very early one, but working on my CM6 G1 and CM7 Optimus T. Awesomeness. |
[2011-10-13] opticbit: Great idea but not working Not working on Galaxy S Epic 4g. I have an unofficial gingerbread installed might be part of it, just goes into setup and takes for ever. |
[2011-10-02] JUAN: Works great on my G2 and G1 It doesn't work on my samsung yp-g70 wifi because it has no dialer & sipdroid won't work without it, and the wifi chip does not seem to be supported. |
[2011-09-19] Roger: Not functional Dinc cm7 |
[2011-09-18] Jimsu: Creepy permissions I think this is a fantastic project.. however I find the permissions kind of creepy..what CAN'T this app do to the phone? |
[2011-09-17] VAN JOHNSON: WORK GREAT ON MY EVO!!! WORK GREAT ON MY EVO!!! |
[2011-09-10] Neilix: Great idea: Can't get this to work on my SGS2 running CM7 but it's a fantastic idea and a project that deserves support. |
[2011-09-10] Mike: Not sure why the bad reviews Awesome app, does everything it should! Works great for me - no issues. Android 2.2. |
[2011-09-04] Wes: Absolutely Brilliant I couldn't agree more whole-heartedly, this project should be supported fully. I certainly hope that it is implemented at a more rudimentary level, such as the Emergency 911 System in the US (mandatory across all phones). Works on both my Samsung Galaxy S (T-mobile Vibrant) and Tab 7 |
