Speak Message Service will automatically read out your SMS messages, providing they are on a whitelist of people to read out SMS for. It is designed for system administrators who get automated SMS's in the middle of the night.
Has a shake to stop feature - shake the phone to get it to stop reading the current message!

[2011-02-03] imma: Works ok, could do with more features Random Idea: I'd like an option for it to open full screen when a message is recieved, vibrate, pause for a few(configurable amount of) seconds with the message displayed & a big cancel button, and then speak the message (with the cancel still there) ps: of course, never interrupt phone calls Thanks, I understand my idea is unlikely to be viable due to resources on a free project & possibly only useful to me :-) It's already nice as it is now |
