You need root, busybox, tun.ko and the openvpn binary!

Features: UI similar to Wi-Fi settings; Restart tunnel when connectivity changes (e.g. from wifi to 3g); Start on boot; Passphrase; DNS; Script-Security; Write and View Log File; Open Source (GPLv3);

The prerequisites screen will check your device for root, busybox, tun.ko and the openvpn binary! This should be useful to new users figuring out what's needed to get openvpn running.

A working openvpn config is required.

HTTP Traffic Broken OpenVPN Settings got me through the last couple years, but after updating to ICS 4.0.3 HTTP traffic over the VPN doesn't work. I get an error stating the (multiple) IP address cannot be resolved. Happens in multiple browsers. LAN and VPN devices can ping each another. Laptop works on VPN fine. I've imported my configuration to an alternate VPN client and that also works. I may return in the future if this client is updated.

Used installer it verified binaries found already opened this app copied conf and keys to where it asked (in a sub dir no less thank you) and IT WORKED THE FIRST TIME WITH 2 TAPS! Efficient, simple and effective. This app just works, hand it the config files, check you want VPN functionality to be enabled, user + pass and you're done. Would certainly recommend.

tap tunel does not work I took working configuration from desktop, check connection in "OpenVPN configurations" - nothing happens. All prerequisites is green. No any useful diagnostics whats going on.

Adequate, but not robust This works pretty well under optimal conditions, but fails badly under sub-optimal conditions, when connectivity is erratic. First, it quickly gives up trying to reconnect to the VPN when the connection is broken. Second, it doesn't directly warn or inform the user that the connection has been lost; there is only the status icon, which is easily missed and which lags behind the actual status. Third, while there is an option for logging, the log only covers connection attempts, not disconnects.

TAP support and it works I tried other OpenVPN clients but they didn't work as expected. This is the first one that supports TAP connections and works well. Really good product. A better interface (maybe update to holo style) would be nice anyway.

Perfect for TAP-based VPNs. Finally, I can use OpenVPN with my provider! Before I found this, I couldn't and my provider also believed it wasn't possible to use OpenVPN on Android devices if the service uses TAP-based VPNs. Now I'm off to inform them it's possible AND easy. 5 STARS!

In case of issues, turn up debugging in the config file and ensure you set it to write to a log file and a status file, like this: log /mnt/sdcard/openvpn/openvpn.log status /mnt/sdcard/openvpn/openvpn.status

Always works! Since I installed this over a year ago, it has reliably connected me to my VPN from my Motorola Droid. Now I'm happy to report it also worked on my HP Touch pad running Cyanogen 9 and Android 4 with almost no effort.

I must be missing something... Reading the description, I was expecting a GUI for adding and editing VPN connections, similar to Android's built-in VPN manager. Why don't I just use the built-in? I do/would. However, it conflicts with Debian Kit, and I haven't figured out a way to work around it yet.

How to save passwords: Just edit your ovpn settings file in the openvpn folder and add (or edit) the row "auth-user-pass filename.txt". Then create filename.txt in the same folder with username on the first row and password on the second. Voila!
