"Det är möjligt att mitt högmod fick mig på fall", börjar författaren Kristian Lundberg sin mycket raka och uppriktiga berättelse om hur han åter tvingades söka sig till det kroppsarbete som hans yrkesbana hade inletts med. "Yarden" är en berättelse som drabbar läsaren, den handlar om utsatthet och överlevnad, om arbetets villkor och om pengar - tillgång till men framför allt avsaknad av pengar.

Fångad i en snara av växande skulder söker Kristian arbete på de mest skriftande platser. Till slut får han jobb i Malmö hamn på Yarden, bland uthyrningsföretagets timanställda med sämst arbetsvillkor, ett arbete där man ständigt riskerar att bli kickad från en dag till en annan. Han flyttar bilar under sträng bevakning och i alla väder. Sakta blir återgången till det kroppsarbete som han höll på med i ungdomen en resa tillbaka till barndomen. Men berättelsen blir också en uppgörelse med det moderna arbetslivets villkor.

Kristian Lundberg företar en omvänd klassresa, där åren med författandet plötsligt framstår som ett mellanspel. Han återvänder till den värld han en gång kom ifrån. Men inte av nostalgiska skäl, utan för att det inte finns någon annan utväg.
