The Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata) is a passerine bird in the family Corvidae, native to North America. It is resident through most of eastern and central United States and southern Canada, although western populations may be migratory. It breeds in both deciduous and coniferous forests, and is common near residential areas.
The Blue Jay mainly feeds on nuts and seeds such as acorns, soft fruits, arthropods, and occasionally small vertebrates. It typically gleans food from trees, shrubs, and the ground, though it sometimes hawks insects from the air. It builds an open cup nest in the branches of a tree, which both sexes participate in constructing. The clutch can contain two to seven eggs, which are blueish or light brown with brown spots. Young are altricial, and are brooded by the female for 8–12 days after hatching. They may remain with their parents for one to two months before leaving the nest.

Perpetua Language Tools (PLT) is a flashcard program designed to assist in the learning of ancient languages, particularly those languages that are used for advanced Bible study.  PLT has flashcard sets for the follow languages:

* Biblical Hebrew (1700 words)
* Biblical Aramaic (400 words)
* Middle Egyptian (1000 words)
* Akkadian Vocabulary (400 words)
* German (1000 words)

Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic are the three languages that used directly in the Bible, and this flashcard programs includes all the words that appear 9 times or more in the New Testament and 18 times or more in the Old Testament.

Egyptian and Akkadian are cognate languages that are used in comparative studies.  Modern German while not an ancient language is a very important language in Biblical scholarship, which is why it is included in Perpetua.  

These flashcards are intended to be used with several popular textbooks which are listed in the user manual in the software; however, the flashcards will also be useful for novices and those who are brushing up on past language work even without the textbooks.

What makes Perpetua distinct from other flashcard programs is our automated flashcard management. Probably the greatest impediment to learning new vocabulary is dealing with card management. Even with a small deck of cards, card management proves to be an arduous task, especially given the fact that it takes between twenty to forty card set repetitions to learn a set of forty new words. And if one does not have card management of some kind, one has to flip the cards between 800 and 1600 times.  PLT gradually and automatically withdraws cards that are well-learned but occasionally returns them to the deck so that the user does not forget what has already been learned.

“I’m sure you remember that Tycho Brahe had his own system of the universe. In a tychonic system, the earth was stationary at the center, the sun went around the earth, and all of the other planets went around the sun. Of course, Tycho believed passionately in his own system, and on his death bed he begged Johannes Kepler to use the new observations to prove the correctness of the tychonic system. It was a touching moment. I have no idea of what Kepler thought of that moment. But the idea of doing what Tycho had asked him to do never even crossed his mind. Kepler was a Copernican to his very core, and as soon as he got his hands on Tycho's data, the first thing that he set out to do was to analyze the orbit of mars. It proved to be enormously difficult, and no matter what he did, he couldn't make the orbit of mars fit a circle. The disagreement between the angular position of mars in the sky and the best circular orbit was eight minutes of arc. In other words, if he had tried to do the same thing before Tycho’s observations, it would’ve been possible. But with the new data, it could no longer be made to work. And so Kepler was faced with a direct conflict between the ancient platonic dictum, that all motions in the heavens had to be circular motions, and the new tychonic observations. Faced with that conflict, he made his choice; he chose the observations. And he started the search for a different smooth curve that would describe the orbit of mars. After years of agonizing work, he hit upon the answer. It was a curve that had been known for thousands of years; and it’s called: an ellipse.” - Dr. David L. Goodstein
