《《春秋左传》又名《左传》，是我国现存最早的编年体史书，我国第一部较为完备的编年体史书。相传为春秋末年的左丘明为解释孔子的《春秋》而作。起自鲁隐公元年，迄于鲁哀公二十七年，是学习、研究先秦历史、文学、哲学和语言必读的典籍。

《左传》叙事敢于直书不讳，揭示事情的真实面貌，全书有关战争的文字较多，这些文字翔实生动，如晋楚城濮之战、秦晋郩之战、齐晋鞌之战、晋楚鄢陵之战，都有出色的叙述。善于叙事，讲究谋篇布局，章法严谨，都是《左传》的独到之处。正因为如此，它在中国文学史上也占有重要的地位。
