Each entry may be marked as read for later revision.
As per the screen shot contained for each entry is the Kanji, the reading and then the list of meanings.
Marking an entry as read will remove it from the vocab list but the read entry may be viewed in the read entries list.
The JLPT exam is now held twice a year and so anytime is a good time to start studying.
