Chapter. 0 : 소녀의 밤



삶은 어쩌면 연극이나 음악 같은 인간들이 즐길 수 있는 하나의 문화일지도 몰라. 음악, 연극에도 클라이맥스(Climax)가 있잖아? 인간의 삶에도 그런 절정이 있기 마련이지. 뭐, 요즘 같은 삭막한 시대에는 인생의 절정도 느껴보지 못한 채 생을 마감하는 이들도 넘쳐나지만.

그래서 말인데.

괜찮다면 네 인생의 클라이맥스를 느껴보지 않을래?


“핫!”

소녀는 눈을 떴다. 혹시라도 근처에 누가 있을까 고개를 돌려 주변을 살폈지만, 회색 콘크리트만이 황량한 사막처럼 펼쳐져있는 병원의 옥상에는 개미새끼 한 마리도 찾아 볼 수 없었다. 소녀는 안도의 한숨을 쉬며 자리에서 일어나 옷을 털었다.

소녀의 차림새는 특이했다. 서울 한복판에서 입었다가는 민속촌의 직원으로 오해받아도 할 말이 없을 정도였다. 한국사 교과서나 영화에서나 볼 수 있을 법한 모던 걸이 곧잘 쓰던 중절모를 삐딱하게 쓴 채, 오른쪽 어깨에는 옥(玉)으로 만든 견갑(堅甲)아래로 백조의 깃털을 면사포처럼 길게 늘어뜨리고 있었다. 은사(銀絲)로 국화 무늬를 낸 새까만 저고리 아래에선 은은하고 옅은 오색 치마가 풍성함을 과시하고 있었다. 심지어 그녀의 신발마저도 능소화가 그려진 황색 버선이었다.

염색한 머리가 판을 치는 서울에서 꿋꿋하게 검은색을 고수하고 있는 소녀의 머리카락은 잠을 자다 뒤척이기라도 했는지 허리까지 내려옴에도 눈에 보일 정도로 헝클어져있었다. 그러거나 말거나 소녀는 단지 머리를 어깨 너머로 넘기기만 하는 것으로 손질을 마쳤다.

“기다리기 귀찮네. 진짜.”

소녀는 중절모를 벗어 그 안에 손을 집어넣었다. 안에서 비둘기라도 나오면 재미있겠지만 세상살이가 그렇게 쉽게 예측될 정도로 만만치 않다는 걸 보여주기라도 하는지, 소녀의 하얀 장갑에는 담배 한 갑과 라이터가 들려있었다. 분명 소녀의 외관은 20대 초반이라고 우겨도 믿을 수 있을 정도로 성숙했지만 주민등록상으로는 아직 미성년자였다. 그럼에도 소녀는 주저 없이 담배를 입에 물고 라이터를 켰다.

칙, 칙 하는 소리와 동시에 하얀 담배연기가 밤하늘로 승천하기 시작했다. 금연이 당연시 돼야 할 병원 옥상에서 미성년자가 당당하게 담배를 피는데도, 소녀의 보라색 눈동자에서는 양심의 가책이라는 게 조금도 보이지 않았다. 오히려 그 영롱한 자색(紫色) 눈동자에는 끊임없는 조소의 빛이 역력하게 비쳐보였다. 마치 세상살이를 비웃는 40대 중년의 모습을 보는 것 같았다.

아직 반도 타지 않은 담배를 옥상 밑으로 던진 소녀는 하늘을 쳐다보며 고운 미간을 살짝 좁혔다.

“아직 다 피지도 못했는데 벌써 나오고 난리야.”

소녀의 시선이 서울의 밤하늘을 자유롭게 날고 있는 카누(Canoe)에게로 향했다. 정확히는 카누가 아니라 카누 위에서 노를 젓고 있는 한 남자를 향하고 있었다. 하늘을 나는 하얀 카누 위에서 물도 없는 허공에 노를 젓는 남자의 차림새도 소녀 못지않게 이상하기 짝이 없었다.

염색이 아닌 듯 자연스러운 은은한 보랏빛을 뿌리는 흑발이 매력적인 사내였다. 하지만 그 뿐이었다. 사내의 눈은 붕대처럼 감은 보라색 천에 가려져 있었고, 귀를 덮은 헤드폰에선 음악 프로그램에서 추천한 최신 노래들이 새어 나오고 있었으며, 굳게 다물어진 입술은 조금도 움직이지 않으니 마치 신비주의의 선구자를 대면하는 것 같았다.

그 괴상한 차림새는 보는 이들로 하여금 혀를 내두르게 할 정도였지만 소녀는 다른 의미에서 혀를 끌끌 찼다. 검은 두루마기를 걸친 사내의 허리춤에는 최신형 MP3가 걸려있었다. 중요한 것은 그것에 들어있을 신곡 따위가 아닌 ‘사람의 수명‘이 적혀있을 메모장 기능이었다.

소녀는 중절모를 벗었다. 중절모에서는 담배 대신에 고급스러운 장식이 돼있는 은제 머스켓(Musket) 하나와 저격용 소총, 심지어는 대 전차 로켓포인 RPG-7이 쏟아져 나왔다. 소녀의 체격으로는 저것들 중 한 발이라도 쏘면 반동으로 인해 어깨가 빠질 것 같은 무기들이었지만, 소녀는 그런 것에 개의치 않고 저격용 소총을 하나 집어 들었다.

소녀는 현역 군인들 못지않은 능숙한 자세로 남자의 머리를 겨냥했다. 베테랑 군인이라 하더라도 사람을 쏠 때는 잠깐의 머뭇거림이 있기 마련인데, 소녀는 그럴 시간조차 아까운지 곧바로 방아쇠를 당겼다.

탕, 하는 듣기 거북한 소리와 함께 사내의 머리가 뒤로 꺾였다. 하지만 그것도 잠시 뿐, 사내는 무슨 일이 있었냐는 듯이 목 관절을 돌리며 재차 노를 젓기 시작했다. 소녀는 그 모습에 이를 갈며 이번에는 카누를 향해 방아쇠를 당겼다.

카누를 꿰뚫을 것만치 날카로운 파열음을 내며 날아간 총알은 카누의 주변에 생성된 반투명한 막에 튕겨져 나갔다. 소녀는 그에 그치지 않고 RPG-7을 들어 카누를 향해 그것을 발사했다. 엄청난 반동과 함께 소녀의 팔에 무리가 가야 정상이겠지만, 무슨 영문인지 소녀는 멀쩡했다. 심지어는 반동조차 없어서 소녀는 그 자리에서 재차 바주카를 발사했다.

엄청난 굉음과 함께 남자가 탄 카누가 여러 차례 휘청거렸다. 하얀 카누에도 그을음과 동시에 불이 조금 붙었지만, 곧 꺼져버렸다. 이쯤 되면 제 아무리 성인군자라 해도 미간에 주름을 만들 법도 한데, 남자의 표정은 끝까지 담담했다. 그 점이 오히려 소녀를 자극했다. 마치 아무것도 들리지 않고, 아무 것도 보이지 않는 다는 듯이 묵묵부답을 고수하는 남자를 향해 소녀가 날아들었다.

평범한 여고생이라면 옥상의 난간에서 발을 떼는 순간 예외 없이 추락사를 면치 못하겠지만, 소녀에게 그런 상식은 통하지 않는지 하늘을 날아 남자가 탄 카누에 안전하게 착지했다. 소녀는 미리 꺼내놓은 안전핀이 제거 된 수류탄을 꺼낸 뒤 그의 주변에 그것을 흩어 놓고 멀찌감치 카누에서 떨어졌다. 수류탄이 터지며 폭발의 여파로 인해 남자의 몸이 만신창이가 됐지만 눈 깜짝할 새에 언제 그랬냐는 듯 멀쩡한 모습으로 돌아왔다. 카누 역시 무슨 재질로 만들어졌는지 전차도 파괴할 화력에도 그을음만 남을 뿐, 약간의 손상조차 허용하지 않았다. 남자가 옷을 털고 일어나 다시 노를 저었다.

소녀는 뭐 저런 게 다 있냐는 얼굴로 중얼거렸다.

“누가 저승사자 아니랄까봐 목숨 질긴 것 좀 봐. 아니, 아무리 그래도 그렇지 ‘죽지 않는’저승사자를 내가 무슨 수로 죽여?”

하늘은 무척이나 새파랬다.
정말 너무도 새파랳다...
하지만 나의 눈엔 카레처럼 노래보였다.

젠장..... 아프다... 진짜로... 도대체 이놈들은 날 얼마나 때려야 속이풀리는지....
"커억-"
"킥... 야, 일어나~"
나의 이름은 김민우다... 평범한 고등학생 2학년이것만 3학년 녀석들에게 잘못보인덕에 하늘 노래지도록 진짜 거짓말 하나 않하고 미치도록 골목에서 쳐 맞고 있었다.
퍼--억-- 퍽---
"커헉"
계속되는 일방적인 구타뿐....
"하하하하! 야, 그러니깐 돈 내놓으라할때 내놓으라고 했잖냐? 앙?"

하면서 나의 엄청나게 소중하고 아름다운 나의!!! 지갑에서 세종대왕님 초록색 초상화 3장을 들고 사라지는 녀석들이었다.
결국 삥뜯는걸 버티다 이꼴인건가 하니 허탈해졌다.
오히려 더 아파졌달까?

이런 잡다한 물음이 머릿속을 맴돌았다...

지금 등짝이 남아나질 안았다.. 딱딱한 길바닥에 몇번이고 내동댕이 쳐졌으니... 얼굴은 엄청 부었는지 시야가 흐릿하다...
그런데 점점 차가운 골목에 땅바닥이 따뜻해져갔다.
왠지모를 따스함에 눈이 감겨왔고 잠이 오기 시작했다... 그리고 간신희 잡고 있던 나의 의식의 끈 킥.. 아니 정신줄이 놓아지고 말았다....

This is simply a list of the LDS Seminary Scripture Mastery scriptures in German.
To help with memorization there are now options to remove random words from verses or to leave just the first letter of all words.
We decided to add the Articles of Faith as well, since they are good for memorizing.
You can swipe between scriptures to go forward or backwards.
To get back to the list of scriptures or books, hit your back button.
There is now a "Widget" that you can put on your home screen. To do this you will need to long press on your home screen, then select "Widgets" or "Android Widget" from the pop-up.
From the list select "Seminarschriftstellen App".
This places the widget on your home screen. Now you need to add a reference. To do this, open the Scripture Mastery App, select a verse, then from the text of the verse (not the reference) long press. You will see a small pop-up that says the verse was added to the widget. Now you have a verse on your home screen.
There is also an option to link to the currently viewed verse on LDS.org in context of the full scriptures. (Bible not linked because not available on LDS.org.)
Now includes "The Living Christ" and "The Family: A Proclamation to the World."
