《易经》分为三部，炎帝部落所编用成为连山易，黄帝部落所编用成为归藏易，而另一部则由周文王写为《周易》。连山易以艮卦为首卦，流行于夏朝，归藏易以坤卦为首卦，盛行于商朝，现在，《连山》与《归藏》都已失传，是我国古代文学一大损失。《连山》与《归藏》是占卜之书，《周易》则是周文王以伏羲八卦为基，卦卦相合，形成了阐述宇宙一切物质事物运转消亡规律的六十四卦。 又由周文王改写，孔子也曾为《易经》编写过《十翼》。
