The instrument is one of the most respected percussion instruments from West Africa. The instrument takes place in African society as a social instrument that is used in cases of celebration or gathering with family and friends. Playing the drum by Africans is often taught from childhood through practice and experience.
Musicians who play this instrument well, like to have a written guidance for the rhythms and sessions they wish to bring together in practice. With the aim of the musician fullest possible support to his or her musical development, we decided to publish a new edition of existing djembe rhythms documented in several formats. An explanation of the described formats is available for use on the djembe and dounset.
