Aldiko Sync (v. 8.5.5) Разработано The Droidware Foundry |
This application is designed to work with the eBook reader Aldiko. It allows you to sync your books and bookmarks across your devices using your Dropbox account.
** Note **
The app requires a rooted device to work with Aldiko v2.2.0+. This is because Aldiko no longer allows other apps access to its database.
** Note **
If you have an issue with the app, please use the in-app "Report Issue" feature, so I can address it as quickly as possible.
** Before complaining about the sync frequency in the Pro version, please read the entry about it in the FAQ here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253576 **
Thanks!
Requirements:
* Android 2.1+
* Aldiko 2.0.2+ (Premium or Free)

* Synchronizes eBooks across devices (including addition of new books and deletion of old books)
* Synchronizes your position in each eBook across devices.
* Pro Version: Fully automatic sync.
* Pro Version: Faster sync check for changes on Dropbox.
* Pro Version: Trigger sync from an external application (like a Tasker/Locale plugin).
* Ability to store deleted books in a separate "TrashCan" folder on Dropbox in case you want to retrieve it at a later date.

Current Limitations:
* User defined bookmarks are not synced across devices.
Change Log:
8.5.5, 10-Oct-2012
* Work around for Dropbox login issue.
8.5.3, 06-Oct-2012
* Migrate Dropbox interface to new API with better security and privacy controls.
* Updated app to fix issues on Android OS 4.1 (Jelly Bean)
* Bug-Fix: (Pro Version) Fix issue where automatic sync was not being triggered if there were pending changes and the sync service was restarted by the Android OS.
8.1.5, 15-Aug-2012
*Bug-Fix: Verify Aldiko 2.2.0+ has been opened at least once prior to sync, so its database is available.
*Bug-Fix: Fix crash on open on Android 2.1, due to Android OS not returning Aldiko's app version correctly.
8.0.2, 05-Aug-2012
* Add support for Aldiko Premium 2.2.0. Note that this and future versions require the device to be rooted, since Aldiko no longer allows third party apps access to its database.
* Bug-Fix: Automatic sync wasn't being immediately triggered on quitting Aldiko on some devices (notably, the HTC One X)
7.9.6, 27-Apr-2012
* The restrict sync to Wi-Fi option will no longer prevent a manual sync from occurring if the device is on a 3G connection.
* Bug-Fix: Fix crash during sync if library contained books with Adobe Digital Editions DRM.
* Bug-Fix: Detect and discard corrupted local sync state, which was causing sync to fail. This seems to happen intermittently on some devices. The cause is still under investigation.
7.4.6, 17-Mar-2012
* Add feature to restrict sync to Wi-Fi connections.
* Pro Version: Update the "Hide Status Icon" feature to display text only on errors. Avoids the notification from blocking others on Honeycomb devices.
* Update notification to show the actual error message, instead of a generic sync failed message.
* Bug-Fix: Fix code to no longer silently ignore errors when saving the sync state.
7.1.2, 07-Feb-2012
* Work around a bug in Android Gingerbread OS (2.3.1 and 2.3.2) which would sometimes corrupt the last digit of the stored read position, causing future sync operations to fail.
* Add a ".nomedia" file to the SDCard location when a new book is imported to prevent the standard Gallery app from caching the book's thumbnail and cover images.

[2012-10-10] brgulker: Great until most recent update This has been a go to app for me for some time. However, since the most recent update, things have been problematic. The app still works as advertised. The issue is that the app simply opens up at random and starts a sync when I am using other apps! Strange. |
[2012-10-09] Jace: Awesome Sync between Epic 4G Touch and Asus Transformer TF700, EDIT 1: Had an Issue where I Deleted a book and the Program errored, Sent the Dev an error report and within the hour the dev got back to me with a Fix, Would rate higher then five stars if I could |
[2012-10-08] Aaron: Great Works!!! |
[2012-10-07] Ameer: Gr8 Very stable v useful. Using on three devices. 100% |
[2012-10-07] dsana123: Works as advertised After purchasing a second Android device I felt the need to have the ability to sync Aldiko between the different devices, and Aldiko Sync performed perfectly on the Samsung Galaxy Note and Nexus 7. Both devices are rooted and have CM ROMs. |
[2012-10-06] Neil: Excellent A truly brilliant app. Works flawlessly. You do have to root your phone to use it. But that's why you're using an Android phone? Right? |
[2012-10-06] Dale: Works fine on android 4.1 I have wanted this for years. Just be careful not to upgrade aldiko. |
[2012-10-06] Shin: The best Great app, can't live without it. Root ftw!! |
[2012-10-06] TJ: Love this app It was originally a root app and the dev made it work without and then Aldiko changed something. Don't be rude because of something out of the devs control. |
[2012-10-06] Evan: Great app! For the people complaining about requiring root maybe they should be complaining to Aldiko. They were the ones who locked down the database. The only thing that would make it better would be the ability to choose from Dropbox, Box and Google Drive. |
[2012-10-06] Michael: Revised review Unfortunately I can't seem to delete the review or rating so I'm giving it 3 stars for Average. I'll transfer my ire to the appropriate place. |
[2012-10-06] Bomber: Great app. I love this app. It keep all my devices synced. |
[2012-10-01] will: Alright Dick move, the constant notification you can't turn off without buying pro. |
[2012-09-19] Scott: Love it For the most part, this works flawlessly. I did run into a problem where my devices got out of sync. But, I got a fast reply from the developer when I used the "report issue" feature. Very impressive response. And the problem got solved fast. Oh, and I got a similarly fast response when the app couldn't reach Dropbox one night, but that turned out to be a Dropbox issue. The Pro version is well worth it. |
[2012-08-22] fulltime: Not bad Icon and design not great, but it does the job. |
[2012-08-13] carlaron: Used to make Aldiko more awesome Until Aldiko blocked this app's access to the library data, this app increased Aldiko's usefullness. However, I can't see rooting, just for this app. Instead, I'll lean on Aldiko to allow this app to work. |
[2012-08-13] P.L.: Could use some beautification (ui is very commodore 64ish). But, it works great the bulk of the time! 08/13/2012 Ran into snag where the app stopped syncing my books... The developer worked tirelessly to help resolve the problem... I'd rate this app ten stars if I could... |
[2012-08-12] EugeneR: Great app Great app, and very good support. Thanks for restoring sync ability with new Aldiko version |
[2012-08-11] Mike: Fantastic app I regularly read on two different devices and before I found this little app it was a struggle to find my place when switching between phone and tablet. Setup was simple and synching manually with the button in the app is fine, but do yourself a favor and get the pro version. It makes synching a "set it and forget it" affair. It just works! |
[2012-08-07] Charleen: Love this app. My husband and I can store our books on dropbox and with this sync, we have access to our book on any device! |
[2012-08-06] Luke: Good app Pro user here. Does what it says. Wish there was an option to never see the status bar icon. I'm sometimes without a connection and I always have the error notification up there. Give me the option to turn it off all together. |
[2012-08-06] Josh: Excellent utility This works great, albeit a touch slower than I'd hoped, but that may be related more to Dropbox than the app. Had a small issue on my first sync attempt, and dev responded to emailed crash report very promptly with the answer. Seriously considering buying the pro version, but want to see user bookmark support added first. All in all: 4.5 stars |
[2012-08-05] Joshua: Was working great Stopped working with the latest Aldiko update. Says it can't find the database. |
[2012-08-05] Mark: Galaxy s3 gt Perfect sync across my devices |
[2012-08-05] A.Einsam: Thank you! Actually thank you! Fast update that solved problems with the new failed Aldiko release. |
[2012-08-05] Kent: Thank you! Your synch works so great and your quick response to resolve incompatibilities with the new Aldiko 2.2 made my day - thank you! |
[2012-08-04] Flaming Spaz: Add FTP support! Works OK with dropbox but I'd like (and pay for) FTP support. |
[2012-08-03] Hoong-Phak: Aldiko update has broken this utility. The latest Aldiko update is preventing sync! |
[2012-08-02] John M: Needs update to support latest Aldiko Excellent app, but stopped working since the latest Aldiko update :( |
[2012-08-01] shug24: Awesome... needs scheduled sync checks I love this app- but it needs a more lax check process.. like once every hour, every 24 hours or manual options etc. When service is poor its annoying seeing all these sync error messages and I'd like to keep it on rather than change it and change back. |
[2012-08-01] Daenyth: Unfriendly app This app has serious problems. The first is that the UI is clunky and not pleasant to use. The second problem is that it runs a background process that forces advertising notifications into your bar. You also can't clear the notifications this app generates, it's a permanent add whenever the software is running. Don't go for this cheap money grab, use a reader that has sync built in (I've liked Moon+ lately) |
[2012-08-01] Sky: Eh? Works for books that I've added via Aldiko, but not books I've uploaded to my synced folder on Dropbox which is what I really wanted it for. Very confusing. |
[2012-07-27] notta: zte love this :) would love it even more if it synched through google drive instead of dropbox. still love it, though. |
[2012-07-27] fool: Pro Version Useless The works great for the free version, the automatic update however is terrible. I had to get a refund, because it just kept synchronizing every time I unlocked my phone. This is completely unnecessary and a battery drain. This should be linked to Aldiko so it syncs each time you close and/or have an option of adjusting sync frequency. |
[2012-07-23] billcouper81: Close to greatness Yes, it sync's the ebooks to Dropbox, no problems. Why doesn't it sync the reading position? Would be 5 stars if it sync'd the reading position..... Maybe it's the way I am using it? Is it supposed to sync reading positions? I don't want to get the Pro Unlocker because of the auto sync dramas I reading about in the comments. I wanted to use the basic Sync to restore my reading position after wiping my phone, as I often do (to install new ROMs). It doesn't wipe my SD Card, so I don't actually lose the books. I was just hoping to sync my reading position, but every time I reinstall my phone (doing a sync before and after) the recent reads shows a book I finished reading over a year ago. |
[2012-07-21] JungleFreak: Works great! Synced all my books between GS3 and Nexus 7. I didn't feel comfortable putting my drop box info into the app, so I just created another account with a different email address. Good to go! |
[2012-07-11] William Patton: Great app As long as you're good with manually running the sync operations, this app rocks. |
[2012-07-06] Allen: Keeps books synced across multiple devices I recently discovered the Aldiko book reader app and found it to be the best e-reader app on the market. Then I found this little jewel. It does a great job of keeping your ebooks synced across multiple devices by using your Dropbox account. Setup is easy and it works flawlessly. Just remember that you have to copy the books to one device first then run Aldiko Sync and it does the rest. A simple app that makes life easier. Highly recommend. . |
[2012-07-03] Kelly: Wonderful! Purchased pro version to support the developer, works perfectly! |
[2012-07-03] Franco: Amazing app and Customer service Love the app. Works great accross my devices. The customer service is top notch as well. So much so, that I will happily purchase the unlocked version. Thanks again for this app and great user experience. |
[2012-06-28] Laura: Awesome app Does what it says, was easy to set up and easy to use. I'm using it on my Galaxy S II and my cyanogen modded touchpad. I've been using the free version because I almost never get paid apps, but I think the auto-syncing may just be worth it. Seriously great job with this app, guys! If I had one criticism: the icon could be prettier. |
[2012-06-16] Dan: Quick Response I had an issue, emailed for help, was answered quickly & competently. Problem was minor & actually a mistake on my part. Aldiko is my favorite free reader & I might even prefer it to Kindle. They promise to look into Google Drive. Hope soon! :) |
[2012-06-13] Steve: Nice! Functions perfectly. |
[2012-06-06] raul: Good. This app was sorely needed. Seemlessly syncs my phone and tablet. It's the next best thing after having this feature embedded right into Aldiko Book Reader. Would be nice if it supported other storage options, beside DropBox, but I can live with this. |
[2012-05-05] damorg: good app! Convenient and functional...does what it says and does it well. Would prefer that there be an option to only show the sync notification on error. Also support for google drive and others would be good. |
[2012-04-30] Alyssa: Awesome Does exactly what its supposed to. Love it |
[2012-04-26] Thomas: Go Pro Works like a charm -- a necessity when reading on both phones and tablets, freeing you to leave the tablet home when it's not convenient -- very responsive customer support (though I've only needed them once) -- I have no connection to the developer, but became an even happier customer when tech support got back to me so quickly |
[2012-04-16] nielson.peter: So much easier Doors want it says and makes aldiko an even better app |
[2012-04-16] Leo: Muy práctico Demasiado útil |
[2012-04-10] Тома: Great app |
[2012-04-05] Duke: Good, but... Please let me schedule the synch. I really, really don't need to synch every few minutes or every time I turn on the screen. |
[2012-04-02] Richard: Great app Great app!!!! Would give 5 stars and may even buy if there was a way to choose what books would sync. I read magazines/pdfs in aldiko but don't want them to sync |
[2012-03-26] Salwa: The best The support is great &fast my problem was fixed within the same day with a beta version. must have apk with aldiko and reading in different devices |
[2012-03-26] Kyle: Wifi only Soo glad you added the wifi only feature! changed this from 4 stars to 5 in my book! |
[2012-03-19] Randal: Fills a Need As more people use multiple devices, something like Aldiko Sync, which is functionally similar to the famous Amazon Whispernet, fills a need. No more trying to remember where you left off in a book or periodical. Much appreciated! |
[2012-03-17] Sly: Nice! Very useful. Top notch on my Galaxy Nexus! |
[2012-03-07] Marcin K.: Am I missing something? What is the folder directory for dropbox, I can't find it. I've added "/mnt/sdcard/android/data/com.dropbox.android/files/scratch/eBooks Calibre/" into the settings but it does not sync anything. What directory do you guys use under ebooks folder? |
[2012-03-07] James: Pretty perfect Wanted something like this. |
[2012-03-03] Dashtapper: Very handy Nice convenient way to sync your books and developer is very responsive. |
[2012-03-01] Forrest: FDJeff Okay! Thanks.FDJ |
[2012-02-28] xVehemencityx: Fantastic Does exactly as it says. Great app |
[2012-02-25] Jay: Most useful app for me This app is a lifesaver for me. I'm an avid with two devices i use daily. It was a real chore before this app. Developer was very responsive to questions and suggestions. I would recommend this app to anyone with more than 1 device who reads ebooks. Galaxy Nexus |
[2012-02-11] Shane: Works good. I was looking for a way to sync my personal ebooks across devices and found that if I import the books into Aldiko this app gives me a way to do this. The dev is very responsive and willing to take care of any issues or questions that come up. |
[2012-02-08] Toby: Great app Just works! Nice to use between my tab, phone, and now book reader. |
[2012-02-03] John: Excellent app and support! First of all, this app works very well and provides smooth syncing between my rooted Nook and my phone. This app is a lifesaver for those who want to read throughout the day and always carry a phone. I had a little issue at setup with a mysterious corrupt library file. There's a built in feature to generate an email with all the details pertaining to an error with one keypress and I got a helpful reply within hours. Now, no issues and sync works very well. After a few days of solid performance, I'm off to purchase the Pro version. |
[2012-01-31] G Tran: Great |
[2012-01-25] Samuel: Works exactly as promised! The dev (who you can contact at the email address given on the app profile) goes above and beyond in providing technical support in tracking down esoteric Android errors that keep the app from working. He doesn't rest until it works exactly as it's supposed to. Now my books are synced across my multiple devices. |
[2012-01-21] Sam: Effective solution Great app! Had some issues with getting my devices to sync, but the dev was responsive and provided assistance promptly. |
[2012-01-13] Min: Doesn't support Korean As far as I can tell, it only supports English ebooks, which makes it completely useless for me. Is it that hard to implement Unicode support so that the rest of us can use it? |
[2012-01-11] Michael: Essential for reading on multiple devices a must have if you use aldiko If you use Aldiko on more than one device, this is a must-have workaround for a gross oversight on Aldiko's part. |
[2012-01-10] Jacqueline: Lifesaver Invaluable when moving to a new device. Developer is extremely responsive! Aldiko should have this functionality built in but for now this is the next best thing. |
[2012-01-09] Dave: Sync icon annoying Recent change makes sync icon come on every time unlock screen. Very annoying, no option to hide it completely now. Worse on tablets because it covers the whole tray section. Give us the option to hide it all if we want then everyone's happy |
[2012-01-02] Shams: Good but... Great idea, works well but needs work. Eats my battery life like crazy. |
[2011-12-26] Guillaume: Needs work Needs improvement but does what it says, and eriously, get a nicer icon it reallt doesn't serve te app ! Ican help if needed... |
[2011-12-20] Matt: Needs work.... Love the idea. Free version is annoy-ware. ALWAYS has icon in status bar. No way to exit app. Also needs a way to check for conflicting uploads. Added devices in wrong order and lost all ebooks and bookmarks. No warning, no complaint, no backup. Just gone. Think I will go back to manual syncs. |
[2011-12-16] Wayne: Alkido Sync This app has to be in my top 5 favourite android apps. Calibre syncs books to my sgs by not by tab. Now I can sync books from my phone to my tablet and to top that I can sync bookmarks. Developer is an amazing guy that responds to emails very quickly. This is one app I could not be without. If you use calibre and aldiko, and have a phone and tablet then this is a must have. Those complaining about the sync notification icon. Try looking in Settings and tick Hide Status Icon. Then it will only notify you when there is a problem rather then each time it does a sync. |
[2011-12-03] jbeuree: Ok for free content Works with my free books but doesn't work with adobe drm books even with both devices authorized. App isn't so useful, at least for me. |
[2011-11-12] Paul: Battery suck If I leave automatic sync on with my tablet unplugged, it kills the battery. Would like a feature to schedule the sync for a specific time of day. |
[2011-11-08] Nicole: Uhh... Dont know if it works. The persistent notification about upgrading to the pro version is irritating. The UI is unattractive. Not. Want. |
[2011-11-07] zitronenröllchen: Essential when you read on more than one device Great tool provides a long missing feature. This was the main reason for me to switch to Aldiko. |
[2011-10-18] Curt: Syncing keeps freezing up Great concept but poor execution |
[2011-10-15] Tanner: Excellent! Functionality that should have been built into Aldiko. Sad that someone else had to make this. Glad he did tho and he gets my $ instead of Aldiko |
[2011-10-04] Chris: Quite impressive Great for sharing ebooks across devices. Not sure how to get deleted books back into Aldiko though. |
